Sources from the Presidential Secretariat said that orders have been issued by the President to the Land Commissioner not to sign the deed for the land promised to former Army Chief General Sarath Fonseka by the government for spearheading the war against the LTTE.
A few days after the military victory, the President told the media that he had allocated a 20 perches land in Kirimandala Mawatha, Colombo to be handed over to the General. However, sources said the President decided to postpone the handing over of the land due to the ongoing conflict between the President and General Fonseka.
