Former Navy Chief Wasantha Karannagoda is looking at entering parliament through the National List after the next general election and securing a Cabinet portfolio and several leading monks are to meet with the President on behalf of Karannagoda to receive approval, JHU sources said.
Wasantha Karannagoda is currently the secretary of the Highway Development Ministry, which is under the purview of the First Lady. Karannagoda’s wife is a close confidante of the First Lady.
During his tenure as Navy Chief, Karannagoda recruited the President second son Yoshitha into the force by amending the recruiting criteria and even provided him with VIP security.
