Sri Lanka's Main opposition party to decide action on defected MPs today

The Working Committee of Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP) will meet today at Sirikotha to decide what disciplinary action to take on the party's 16 defected parliamentarians who voted in favor of the impeachment of former Chief Justice. The opposition and UNP leader Ranil Wickremasinghe has said that disciplinary actions will be taken against the 16 members of parliament who have been elected under the UNP ticket at the last general election and crossed over to the government. Wickremasinghe has explained that all defected MPs, who were elected under the UNP ticket at the 2010 general election, were informed that they are required to vote against the impeachment motion in parliament but some MPs have voted with the government. The Opposition Leader has said that he received a report on the MPs who voted for impeachment from the Secretary to the Opposition Leader Naufer Rahman and the report has ben sent to the General Secretary Tissa Attanayake to take action at the Working Committee meeting today.
