Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa says that his government is spending a considerable amount of funds on improving the health sector to provide quality healthcare to the public.
Addressing a ceremony to launch a project to modernize the Nuwara Eliya Hospital in the country's tea plantation district to a state-of-the-art- facility, the President said his government has taken the country's health care system into new horizons.

The renovation of the hospital in a six-story building equipped with modern equipment and facilities will be carried out an estimated cost of Rs. 6.7 billion.
The President said during his tenure his government acquired the derelict estate hospitals and improved them to provide quality healthcare to the community.
President Rajapaksa was in a tour in the Central Province to observe and discuss the progress of the development projects in the Province.
The President also toured the proposed site for the construction of the new domestic airport in Hawa Eliya in Nuwara Eliya yesterday and held a special discussion with the relevant officials.

He advised the relevant authorities to proceed with the construction without harming the environment.
The proposed new airport will have a 900-meters long and 45-meters wide runway. It is designed to function even in harsh weather and will be constructed to contain state-of-the-art facilities.
Nuwara Eliya, known as "Little England" is one of Sri Lanka's major tourist hot spot and the government aims to boost tourism in the area through the construction of the airport.
Ministers Priyankara Jayaratne, C. B. Ratnayake, Naveen Dissanayake, Central Province Governor Tikiri Kobbekaduwa, and President's Chief of Staff Gamini Senarath also participated in the discussion.
