A Sri Lankan government minister says the three United States State Department Deputy Assistant Secretaries, who are currently in the country on a five-day visit, are engaged in gathering information to use against Sri Lanka before the international community.
National Freedom Front (NFF) Leader and Housing and Construction Minister Wimal Weerawansa addressing an event in Mawathagama has said that the US officials were trying to gather information to indicate to the international community that the law and order situation in the country is facing a breakdown.
He has noted that the US was trying to use such information to call for an international probe on the alleged war crimes that have taken place in the country during the period of the war.
According to Weerawansa, there are many elements in the country who are backing the US views and that the main opposition United National Party (UNP) and the Marxist party Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) are also claiming a breakdown in the law and order situation in the country.
