Sri Lanka's major Tamil political party, the Tamil National Alliance has commenced a hunger strike in Jaffna demanding the release of the Jaffna University students in the custody of the Terrorist Investigation Department (TID).
Four of the 11 Jaffna University students who were arrested by the TID are still in custody and the TNA is demanding their release.
The students were taken into custody on December 1st to interrogate on the clash that took place between the Jaffna University students and the security forces personnel on November 27th.
Jaffna University students and teachers are continuing with their protest to get the students released.
