A presiding judge of a court room in Sri Lanka's apex court today postponed all the cases that were to here for the day and walked away.
Justice Shiranee Tilakawardane today postponed 30 cases that were scheduled for trial in Court No. 502 saying that she had to postpone all the cases since there was no properly constituted bench.
She postponed all the cases and assigned new dates before leaving the court. It is not clear why the other two judges, Justices Chandra Ekanayake and S.I. Imam, were not present.
The Court Room 502 was to convene today at 10 a.m. and there were 26 cases most of which are Fundamental Rights cases scheduled to be heard.
Under the Constitution, the cases are to be heard at all times by a bench of at least three judges.Monday, 17 December 2012
