Activist lawyer threatened in Sri Lanka

Former secretary of Sri Lanka opposition United National Party (UNP) affiliated National Lawyers' Association senior counsel Gunarathna Wanninayaka has lodged a complaint in police that four armed men attempted to assault him today. The incident has taken place outside his house in Boralesgamuwa in the outskirts of Colombo as he was returning home from work. Wanninayaka has complained that four men in camouflaged clothes followed him and asked him to stop the vehicle, and threatened him around 5 p.m. today. The suspects had fled the scene on bikes, he has added. Boralesgamuwa police have launched an investigation. Wanninayaka was an activist in the agitations of the lawyers against the impeachment motion of Chief Justice Dr. Shirani Bandaranayake.
