Opposition members of Sri Lanka PSC hearing impeachment motion likely to walk out today

Opposition political party members in Sri Lanka's parliamentary select committee (PSC) probing the impeachment motion against the Chief Justice are likely to walk out of the committee today after making a statement. Chief Justice Dr. Shirani Bandaranayake yesterday staged a walk out of the PSC with her lawyers claiming the committee was not offering her a fair trial. An opposition member in the PSC told ColomboPage that the four opposition members in the committee would walk out of the PSC. "Although the governing party members could proceed with the committee session, it would not have any credibility," the member said. He added that the Chief Justice had not been given a fair hearing and that she and her lawyers were continuously harassed by the governing party members. The Chief Justice was yesterday given a set of new documents by the PSC and had asked her to respond by this afternoon after turning down her request for more time. The PSC is scheduled to meet today.
