IOC could suspend Sri Lanka Olympic Committee for corruption, former cricket captain and MP warns

Former Sri Lanka cricket captain and parliamentarian Arjuna Ranatunga says that corruption allegations could result in the International Olympic Committee (IOC) suspending Sri Lanka's Olympic Committee. Ranatunga has told parliament that Sri Lanka could face a similar situation like neighboring India that was suspended by the IOC. The IOC on Tuesday suspended the Indian Olympic Association for chronic violations of the international Olympic Charter. Ranatunga alleged that there is wide corruption in the Sri Lanka Olympic Committee and that it was only a matter of time before the IOC suspends it. He has called on Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage to intervene and stop the corruption in the Sri Lanka Olympic Committee. According to Ranatunga, standards of cricket in Sri Lanka were also degrading and that the government needs to be aware of the situation. A suspension could cause athletes to lose financial support from the international sports authority.
