Sri Lanka's Education Minister Bandula Gunawardena has threatened to institute legal action against those who launch false allegations on education.
The Minister was referring to the allegations that the Grade Five Scholarship Examination papers had leaked and that there were faults in the results of the last year's GCE Advanced Level Examination. Minister Gunawardena has said that he had already issued instructions to the Commissioner General for Examinations to initiate legal action against those who attempted to mislead the public through false propaganda. A police investigation found no evidence to any leak in the Scholarship Examination papers as the General Secretary of the Ceylon Teacher Services Union (CTSU) Mahinda Jayasinghe alleged. Speaking at a function organized to upgrade the Richard Pathirana Vidyalaya at Uluvitike in Galle to a secondary school, Gunawardena said as the Minister of Education, he took the decision to seek the support of the judiciary against statements made to take revenge from the children. "Such actions cannot be permitted," he stressed. -->
