
Japan's Minister of Foreign Affairs Koichiro Gemba has given this assurance to Sri Lanka's Minister of External Affairs Professor G.L. Peiris on Monday when the two met at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Tokyo on Monday, Sri Lanka Minsitry of External Affairs said in a statement. Minister Peiris has provided his Japanese counterpart with a detailed account of current developments in Sri Lanka in respect of all aspects of revival of the economy and the continuing reconciliation process. He has expressed appreciation to the government of Japan for its consistent support of Sri Lanka during the sixty years of diplomatic relations. Minister Peiris was in Japan to deliver a keynote address at the international conference on Disaster Reduction and Management at Tohoku. Japan's Foreign Minister referred to the scope available at present for cooperation between the two countries in such areas as tourism, with tourism from Japan having increased by 45 percent last year, maritime security, solar power projects, and digital broadcasting, the statement said. The two Ministers discussed in detail specific programs of collaboration to cement an already strong relationship and the Japanese Minister has assured his government's resolve to work with Sri Lanka in a spirit of sustained partnership. Ambassador of Sri Lanka in Japan Admiral (retd.) Wasantha Karannagoda was also present at the bilateral discussions.
