Sri Lanka recruits 1500 rehabilitated LTTE cadres to the Civil Defense Force

The Sri Lankan government has taken steps to recruit the rehabilitated cadres of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) into the country's Civil Defense Force.
The Civil Defense Department is to recruit 300 rehabilitated LTTE cadres from each of the five Northern Province districts - Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Mannar, Mullaitivu and Vavuniya. The recruitment drive will start today in Kilinochchi with the Department recruiting 300 rehabilitated LTTE cadres from the Kilinochchi district. The recruited personnel are to be deployed in the agricultural projects conducted by the Civil Defense Department in the northern districts. The recruitment drive, a concept of parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa, was organized by the Director-General of the Civil Defense Department Rear Admiral Ananda Peiris under the direction of Defense and Urban Development Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.
