Deputy Leader of Sri Lanka's main opposition criticizes government for not reducing oil prices with global prices

Deputy Leader of Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP) Sajith Premadasa says the government has not taken steps to reduce local fuel prices in line with the global market prices. Premadasa issuing a statement has said that oil prices in the global market have declined, which is considered to be the lowest price reduction in the past one and a half years.
He has said the government has not shown any concern in reducing the local fuel prices following the reduction in the global prices. He has pointed out that the government had assured to study the fuel price reduction in the international market and take appropriate measures to revise the local prices within six weeks, but had so far failed to adhere to this assurance. Premadasa has noted that the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) was incurring losses and the fuel prices were increased burdening the people to cover part of these losses. According to the UNP Deputy Leader, the entire country has to suffer due to the corrupt administration of the CPC and for the damages caused by the institution. The Ministry of Petroleum Industries earlier this month said it is considering a price revision of fuel to pass the benefits of the declining oil prices in the world market to the public if the downward trend in prices continued.
