Sri Lanka's major Tamil political party, the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) parliamentarians are to meet today to discuss the situation at the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) sessions in Geneva.
TNA Leader R. Sampanthan has said
the meeting was a routine one that takes place before parliamentary sessions. The TNA was due to participate in the UNHRC sessions in Geneva, but cancelled the decision at the last minute without giving any reason for the cancellation. Several TNA members have objected to the decision to cancel the visit to Geneva and called for an urgent meeting to discuss the issue. Jaffna District parliamentarian Suresh Premachandran has said that the decision to cancel the visit was not unanimous. TNA parliamentarian P. Ariyanenthiran said the issue needed to be discussed. The matter therefore, would be one of the key issues to be discussed at today's meeting.
