Sri Lanka opposition leader says not enough relief provided for resettled families in the North

The Leader of Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP), Ranil Wickremasinghe says the government has not provided adequate relief to the resettled IDPs in the North and therefore, he would raise the issue in the parliament and intervene to provide the necessary relief to those people. After meeting the resettled IDPs in Mullaitivu,
the opposition leader has said that he would take up the issues faced by the resettled people in Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu. Wickremasinghe was on a three-day visit to the North with a UNP delegation to support the party candidates facing local government election in the Mullaitivu district. He has observed that although it is almost three years since the end of the war, the resettlement programs in the Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu districts have not provided the desired relief to the people. Wickremasinghe has said that although the government claimed to have launched programs under various labels like Northern Spring to provide relief to the people and build infrastructure, not much has happened in the three years since the end of the war. He emphasized that urgent steps are needed to address these issues faced by the people. During the visit, the UNP delegation also made arrangements to hold a joint May Day rally in the Jaffna Town this year.
