Sri Lanka's Marxist party Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) says the government has compromised country's sovereignty by allowing foreign interferences in the country.
JVP Leader Somawansa Amarasinghe referring to the outcome of the vote on the US backed resolution on Sri Lanka at the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) sessions in Geneva has said
the country's sovereignty was lost even before the vote on the resolution was taken because of the current government. He has explained that the government has allowed the international community to interfere in Sri Lanka's affairs by its failure to implement the proposals made by the JVP in May 2009 that the government needed to commence the reconciliation process, establish democracy and a Truth Commission following the end of the war. He has noted that there was no great difference between the resolution, presented by the imperialist US and other countries that back it, and the government's stance. "The only difference is that the imperialist want Sri Lanka to implement what it has undertaken speedily and with the assistance of the UN," he has said. According to Amarasinghe, the people needed to unite to defeat the government that is short-sighted, capitalist and bow down to imperialist elements.
