General Secretary of Sri Lanka major opposition United National Party (UNP) Tissa Attanayake said that an incident that took place in Horana at a meeting presided by the party leader Ranil Wickremasinghe on 12th March was misreported by media.
Attanayake said that
there was no protest against the party leader. According to the UNP General Secretary, the chaos took place as the meeting was over and a video show started. However, the clash was between several local activists and not with any party leader. In addition, there was no protest against the party leader, as reported, the General Secretary said. Media reports quoting UNP sources said that the police had to intervene to remove the party leader from the location when a violent mob protested the showing of a video on the December 18 attack on the party headquarters 'SiriKotha'. Attanayake, however, doubted unscrupulous motives behind the incident and the reporting.
