Sri Lanka Army preparing action plan to implement LLRC recommendations

The Sri Lankan Army is in the process of preparing an action plan detailing how to implement the recommendations in the report of the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC), the government revealed today. Once completed,
the Army will hand over the action plan to the Defense Ministry, the Acting Spokesman for the Sri Lanka Army, Brigadier G. V. Ravipriya has said. According to the Army spokesman, a board comprising senior officers of the Army had been appointed by the Army Commander Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya a month ago to formulate the Action Plan. The board has almost finished the draft and the Action Plan will be handed over to Army Commander for perusal, who will hand it over to Defense Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, the spokesman said. The US sponsored resolution submitted to the United Nations Human Right Council calls for the government to promptly present a comprehensive action plan detailing the steps that will be taken to implement the recommendations made in the LLRC report.
