Sri Lanka police teams today rescued a government minister's wife and several others who were lost deep in a jungle in the South.
Shashi Weerawansa, the wife of Housing and Construction Minister Wimal Weerawansa, and a group have gone on a pilgrimage to pay homage to a shrine called Kebiliththa Temple deep in the Yala National Wildlife Park in the Hambantota district and got lost when their vehicle was stuck in the mud.
The group has failed to contact with the outside and was unable to find the way back.
Three police teams were deployed today in search of the group and the group was found safe, the police spokesman Ajith Rohana said. The Kebiliththa shrine situated in the heart of the jungle in Yala Block IV, is believed to be the spiritual residence of God Kataragama and possessed of great divine power.
