Former Sri Lankan Army Commander would not tender an apology for release, says wife

The wife of former Sri Lankan Army Commander Sarath Fonseka, Anoma Fonseka says he or his family would not tender an apology to secure his release. However, Anoma Fonseka says that discussions with the government carried out by Democratic National Alliance MP Tiran Alles to secure Fonseka's release from prison have been positive. Anoma told the media today that a protest would be held outside the Hultsdorf court complex on Wednesday (8) to demand Fonseka's release.
The protest would be held under the banner of the Movement for Democracy led by the Marxist party Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) to mark the second anniversary of Fonseka's imprisonment. Members from political parties, intellectuals and trade union representatives are expected to participate in the protest.
