The advisory committee of Sri Lanka's major opposition United National Party (UNP) yesterday decided to remove Kurunegala district MP Dayasiri Jayasekera from the post of Assistant Chief Whip of the opposition.
He was replaced by Kalutara district MP Ajith P. Perera.
The advisory committee pointed out that MP Jayasekera could not hold the position since he had been subjected to a disciplinary probe. The advisory committee also appointed Ravi Karunanayake, who recently lost the working committee election for party Deputy Leader to dissident chief Sajith Premadasa, back to the working committee of the party. He fills the vacancy created by the crossed-over UNP MP Mohan Lal Grero.
