3G phones recovered from the prison cells of the LTTE suspects in Sri Lanka

Prison officials of Sri Lanka's main Welikada Prison in Colombo have recovered two 3G mobile phones from the prison cells where the hardcore Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) suspects were detained. Over 180 LTTE suspects detained in remand prison were moved to other prisons when the inmates at the Magazine remand prison launched a riot and set fire to the prison buildings. The LTTE suspects have failed to hide or take away the phones from their cells during the emergency and the prison officials inspecting the cells later recovered the phones.
The SIM cards of the phones have been given to the Criminal Investigation Department for further investigations. Police suspect the LTTE suspects have taken calls to foreign countries as well using these phones. There were 180 LTTE suspects in the Magazine prison. However, they were not involved in the riots, prison sources said.
