Cooperatives and Internal Trade Minister of Sri Lanka Johnston Fernando says that the first stock of imported cement would reach the country on Monday (8).
A stock of 100,000 cement bags from Pakistan is to reach the country on Monday.
Fernando has said the imported cement and other building materials would ensure that there would not be any shortages in the local market.
Each imported cement bag would weigh 50 kilos and according to the Minister more stocks of cement would be imported in the next few weeks.
The Minister said the controlled price was Rs. 750 per a 50 kg bag of cement and he had directed the Chairman of the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) Rumy Marzook to conduct raids on errant traders and establishments.
The CAA on Monday arrested 10 traders for hoarding 500 bags of cement.
