Sri Lanka Minister of National Languages and Social Integration Vasudeva Nanayakkara says that plans are under way to introduce a new standard to the public and private sector firms that provide services to public in either two or three official languages.
Under the programme the firms are to be granted a standard certificate and a logo to introduce themselves as prestigious, people-friendly places where two or three languages are used.
Minister Nanayakkara said that the programme would be launched island wide under the Mahinda Chinthana policy of facilitating the people to use their mother tongue to carry out their work through public and private sectors under the principle of guaranteeing equality to all communities living in the island.
The government believes having knowledge to communicate in all three languages Sinhala, Tamil and English will aid the reconciliation process between the communities easier.
