No powers to commute death sentence: Jayalalithaa

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister said in a statement under rule 110 of Tamil Nadu Assembly on Monday: “As a Chief Minister I don't have the powers to commute the death sentence after the President has rejected the mercy plea of the three people — Santhan, Murugan and G. Perarivalan alias Arivu”.
She recalled that in the year 2000 the then DMK government made a recommendation to the Governor seeking commutation of death sentence of Nalini on the ground that she had become a mother but not the three others. Now Mr. Karunanidhi is enacting a farcical drama as if I have the powers, she said.
