Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), the Marxist party of Sri Lanka says the Elections Commissioner and the Police Department are unable to curb the election related violence.

JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva has said that many local government candidates of the ruling United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) were engaged in election related violence and the authorities are unable to take any action against them.

He has added that the opposition parties are being obstructed by the security forces from carrying out their election campaign work.
