Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP) is to call for a Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) to probe the issue of importing a stock of substandard fuel.
UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake told a press conference that the party's parliamentary group would make a final decision on the matter.
He said that the authorities should reveal as to who ordered the purchase of a consignment of 20,000 metric tons of substandard fuel.
Attanayake observed that given the procedures involved in such a transaction, it had to be carried out on the orders of a powerful person.
He said that the Petroleum Minister could not avoid the responsibility for importing the contaminated stock of fuel.
