Sri Lanka university teachers to confront Higher Education Minister at Sri Jayewardenepura University today

Sources close to the Federation of University Teachers' Associations of Sri Lanka says that the university teachers are planning a protest against the Minister of Higher Education S.B. Dissanayake at Sri Jayewardenepura University today.

The Minister is to visit the university today as the chief guest of the ceremony to present Mahapola Scholarships to the university students.

The university teachers who are on a trade union action demanding a salary increase have protested the invitation extended to the Minister stating that he has made statements against the university teachers.

However, reliable sources say that the university authorities will take action to strengthen security and the Minister will participate in the function as scheduled.
