Sri Lanka President arrives in Russia to attend economic forum

Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa arrived at the Pulkovo International Airport in Saint Petersburg, Russia today to attend the 15th Annual St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEP).

The President, upon his arrival, was warmly welcomed by the Deputy Governor of St. Petersburg, Sergei Alexsei Ivanovich at the Airport.


Sri Lanka will participate for the first time as an observer in the three-day forum from June 16 to 18.
The forum, held annually with the participation of Russian President, brings together prominent politicians, corporate executives and experts to discuss key issues of the global economy.
Senior Minister of International Financial Co-operation, Dr. Sarath Amunugama, Minister of External Affairs, Professor G.L. Peiris, President's Coordinating Secretary on International Affairs, MP Sajin Vass Gunawardena, Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga, Ambassador for Sri Lanka in Russia Udayanga Weeratunga, Governor of the Central Bank Ajith Nivard Cabraal and some state officers of Russia were present on the occasion.
