Sri Lanka Marxist party members released after being arrested for pasting posters

Seven members of Sri Lanka's Marxist party Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), arrested while pasting posters Thursday night in Kilinochchi by the military police and handed over to local police, were released this evening.

The Military Police had arrested the JVP members including a party organizer while pasting posters as part of the party's island wide poster campaign to create awareness on the five proposals made by the party for good governance and prevent international interference.

The arrested JVP members had been pasting posters calling for the release of Tamil political prisoners, scrapping the Prevention of terrorism Act, the removal of emergency regulations and the release of former army commander Sarath Fonseka.

The police released the JVP members after recording their statements.
