Visit to the North by representatives of the Sri Lankan government and TNA postponed

The visit to the North that was to take place yesterday (16) by representatives of the Sri Lankan government and the major Tamil party, Tamil National Alliance (TNA) has been postponed.

The visit had been postponed following a request by the government. The government had said the necessary arrangements for the trip could not be made due to state officials being on leave during the New Year period.

The government has requested that the visit be carried out after the New Year holidays, but has not yet finalized a date.

Representatives of the government and TNA were scheduled to visit the North to inquire into the Tamil detainees and their well-being.

The joint observation tour is a result of the round of talks between the government and the TNA held on April 07, TNA said.
