College student murdered, sister and mother injured in Tamil Nadu

A woman engineering college student was murdered and her elder sister and mother severely injured by a gang at their house at nearby Pottapalayam, police said.

Police said the gang members gained entry to the house by forcing the door open and killed their pet dog before attacking the inmates late last night.

Neighbours rushed to the spot on hearing the screams of the women by which time the student had died, they said.

Her sister and mother have been hospitalised.

Police have collected fingerprints from the house and sought forensic bureau's help to investigate.

The woman's father was working in a garment factory in Tiruppur district, police said.

A special team had been formed to nab the culprits, police said.
