In one incident a hand grenade was thrown into a polling station at the Maguldamana Vidyalaya in Aralaganwila in the Polonnaruwa District injuring a police officer who was on duty at the polling booth.
Aralaganwila Police are conducting further inquiries.
In another incident one person was killed and two others were injured in early morning today when a fight ensued between two groups in Bulathkohupitiya of Kegalle district.
According to local media reports, the victim succumbed to his injuries at the Kegalle Hospital after being stabbed with a sword.
Peoples Action for Free and Fair Elections (PAFFREL) Executive Director, Rohana Hettiarachchi has told Daily Mirror that the incident was reportedly between two groups of ruling party supporters but the police has denied the incident is election related.
There was no major disruption of the polling process due to these incidents, police spokesman Prishantha Jayakody has said.
However, election monitoring groups have said that they had received over 100 complaints including allegations of intimidation, impersonation, chasing away voters from polling booths and the violation of election laws.
