Election Commissioner issues instructions for Sri Lanka local polls

Sri Lanka Election Commissioner Dayananda Dissanayake has informed all political parties that all propaganda activities for the forthcoming local government elections should cease at 12 midnight next Monday, March 14th.

All political offices in connection with election should be closed down by next Wednesday, March 16th, the Commissioner's office informed.

The local government polls will be held on Thursday, March 17th for 235 local government institutions which include 3 Municipal Councils, 30 Urban Councils, and 202 Pradeshiya Sabhas.

The distribution of polling cards for the polls will end today.
