Sri Lankan government minister questions UNP MP's funding sources

A senior Sri Lankan government minister has today raised doubts over the funding received by main opposition United National Party (UNP) Hambanthota District parliamentarian Sajith Premadasa.
Irrigation Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva addressing a press conference said that an investigation has to be conducted to find Premadasa's funding sources.

The government minister had said that Premadasa had a very high funding capacity as he sometimes donates Rs. 5,000 to each family.

According to de Silva, it needed to be determined as to where Premadasa acquired such a large amount of money.

Premadasa faced a similar situation last month when the JHU questioned as to how he found the funds to donate Rs. 50,000 to each temple under the Sasunata Aruna programme.

De Silva also told the media that Opposition and UNP Leader had overlooked Premadasa when he left the country, as he handed over the duties to the party's deputy leader and secretary.
