Sri Lanka's Marxist trade union seeks support to fight for salary increments

Sri Lanka's Marxist party Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) affiliated National Trade Union Center (NTUC) has called on all trade unions to unite in the struggle for a salary increment for the working masses.

NTUC Head and JVP politburo member K.D. Lalkantha addressing a seminar on the cost of living and the need for a salary increase called on the other trade unions including those affiliated with the UNP and the SLFP to join forces to fight for a Rs. 10,000 salary increment for the working masses.

Lalkantha said the NTUC was prepared to work with any trade union to win the rights of the working masses.

According to him, the trade unions have to be united in order to make an effective struggle to win a salary increase that is in line with the rising cost of living.

Lalkantha said that the working masses have always won their demands whenever a united struggle has been launched.
