Sri Lanka police commenced interviews today to recruit 1,000 Tamil youth to the junior grades of the police service.
The interviews are held to recruit sub inspectors, women sub inspectors, police constables, women police constables and police drivers.
Four Senior Superintendents and two superintendants of police, mostly ethnic Tamil officers, have been appointed to the interview boards.
The applicants are from Northern Province districts. The selected individuals will be trained in police training schools before being positioned in the police stations in the Northern Province.
Earlier this month a batch of 336 Tamil police constables including 16 women officers from the Northern and Eastern provinces was recruited after basic training.
The Police are to deploy these officers for the service in Northern and Eastern provinces and their service will also be extended for the convenience of upcountry Tamil people.
