Sri Lanka's local government elections to be held on March 12

The district retaining officers of the Election Department of Sri Lanka will commence accepting nominations for the local government election from tomorrow.

The nominations are accepted for the elections of 301 local government bodies. The acceptance of nominations will close by 12:00 p.m. of January 27th.

The election date is to be announced on January 27, immediately after the close of nominations by the Election Commissioner.

However, the Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratna said today at a meeting of the electoral organizers of the Kandy district that the local government election would be held on March 12.
