Sri Lankan government enters into agreement with Chinese company for second phase of Hambantota Port

The Sri Lankan government has signed an agreement with a Chinese company to award the contract for the second phase of the Hambantota Port.

China Communications Construction Co. Ltd., a transportation infrastructure company, has reportedly announced that it has entered into an agreement with the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) to complete the second-phase of the Hambantota Port development project.

The contract is estimated to be worth over US$ 810 million and is expected to be completed in three years.

The second phase of the contract covers the design, procurement, and construction of the port's current infrastructure construction project.

Foreign media reports sate the contract awarded to China Harbour Engineering Company will see the construction of four 100,000-deadweight tonne (dwt) container berths, a single 100,000-dwt oil wharf and two 30,000-dwt feeder berths.
