Sri Lanka military says strict measures will be taken to control the incidents of violence that have been reported in Jaffna.
Commanding officer of the Army in Jaffna, Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe addressing a meeting at the Jaffna Government Agent's office on the security situation in the city, has assured that there were no underworld groups operating in the area.
Hathurusinghe has added that while certain groups may try to disrupt the holding of local government elections in the area, the security forces would take the required measures to ensure a peaceful environment.
According to Hathurusinghe, steps have already been taken to introduce 24-hour motor bike patrols and to conduct body searches at checkpoints in Jaffna.
