SLMC Leader to propose extending nominations deadline for Sri Lanka local government polls

Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) Leader and Justice Minister Rauf Hakeem has said that the deadline to hand over nominations for the forthcoming local government elections should extended given the current situation in the country.

Hakeem had told the media that he would discuss with all party leaders and request for an extension in the deadline to hand over nominations for the elections due to the heavy flooding experienced in many districts in the country.

According to Hakeem, the proposal is to be made at a party leaders' meeting of the governing UPFA scheduled for later today (12).

The Elections Department has already announced that nominations for the forthcoming local government election be handed over between January 20 and 27th.
