India's High Commissioner in Colombo Ashok K. Kantha accompanied the visiting Commander to the meeting during which President Rajapaksa and the Air Chief Naik discussed the matters related to the security of the two countries.
Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga and Sri Lanka Air Force Commander Air Vice Marshal Roshan Gunathilaka were also present at the meeting.
Earlier, Naik had met with the Prime Minister D. M. Jayaratna and Secretary of Defence Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.
During the discussion with the PM, India Air Force Chief said that India was monitoring Sri Lanka's security situation as the safety of Sri Lanka inevitably means the safety of India and it is importance for both countries to strengthen security ties.
The Indian Air Force Chief has emphasized strengthening military ties between the two countries and noted that Sri Lanka is satisfactorily achieving the development goals at present.
The Prime Minister has assured the visiting defence official that the government is committed to enhance living standarda of the Tamil community in the North.
During his discussion with Air Chief Naik, Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has commended Indian assistance provided for flood relief.
Responding to a request from the Sri Lankan government for urgent flood relief, the Government of India has sent a relief package of $1 million.
The second consignment of the relief package arrived in the country yesterday (17) while the first consignment of about 25 tonnes of this assistance arrived in Colombo on last Friday (14).
