A Sri Lankan court today released a former parliamentarian of main opposition party on bail after being arrested for criminal breach of trust.
Courts had today released former United National Party (UNP) MP Mohammad Maharoof on a personal bail of Rs. 1.5 million after he was arrested for criminal breach of trust after cheques worth Rs. 1.5 million issued by him had allegedly bounced back.
While Maharoof was released on a personal bail of Rs. 1.5 million and two sureties, the courts had also asked him to repay the due amount of Rs. 1.5 million to the plaintiff in five installments.
The courts fixed the case again for February 8 and ordered to retain Maharoof's passport.
