President instructs commodity importers of Sri Lanka to ease consumer concerns

Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa met Colombo's prominent commodity importers Thursday at the Temple Trees and instructed them to take measures to ease the problems faced by the consumers due to escalating prices of commodities in the local market.

The President asked the wholesale traders to provide essential consumer items at the lowest rate possible to provide relief to the people ahead of the approaching holidays.

He also instructed the relevant officials to make consumer items available in ample stocks in the state run shops like Sathosa and corporative outlets.
The government plans to import some essential food items immediately to ease the shortage during the festive season.
