Credit card for Sri Lanka public employees

Sri Lanka's premier bank, Bank of Ceylon is planning to introduce a 'credit card' for state sector employees.

The issue of the credit card is in line with the Government's e-governance program and aimed to encourage the public servants to do e-transactions.

Bank of Ceylon (BoC) Deputy General Manager of Product and Development Banking C. Samarasinghe said the card will be launched on the 15th of January.

The BoC is to give a credit limit worth three times of the salary of the public employee, says Samarasinghe.

The card holders can also pay their utility bills and other payments via this card.

Sri Lanka has around 1.1 million state sector employees and the government has directed two other state banks also to launch credit cards for public employees.
