BJP threatens to take Congress to court for alleging party's links with Nira Radi to

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has threatened to sue the Congress party if it fails to substantiate its charges about lobbyist Niira Radia having links to senior BJP leaders. The party further said that the Congress’ allegations were merely an attempt to divert attention from the ongoing 2G spectrum scam.

BJP president Nitin Gadkari turned up at the BJP press conference and flatly denied having any business relations with Radia. “This is a cent per cent lie. I have not even seen Radia face-to-face. She has never called me, neither have I called her. And there is no issue of meeting her or helping her,” he said.

While the BJP continued its tirade against prime minister Manmohan Singh, it went after Congress spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi, who had, on Friday, quoted media reports linking Radia to senior BJP leader Ananth Kumar when the latter was on Friday when he was a minister in the then BJP-led National Democratic Alliance government.

Gadkari said the Congress was behind these allegations and asked the prime minister to take moral responsibility for his failure to prevent the 2G spectrum scam. “Singh is morally responsible as so many scams have taken place under his leadership. There are many instances where he could have prevented it but he failed,” he said.

Responding to charges of having favoured Radia in the purchase of helicopters in Maharashtra, he said these charges were being levelled by Congress. The BJP spokesperson, Pratap Singh Rudy, also pointed out that the helicopter deals signed by Karnataka and Maharashtra were inked when the two states were ruled by the Congress party.

“The image of the Congress is getting tarnished day by day. So they have abandoned their wisdom and patience. And due to this, they are sinking and abusing others to besmirch their name. This is unfortunate for democracy,” Gadkari said.

The two BJP leaders also discounted the charges levelled against senior BJP leader LK Advani for allotment of land to Radia’s non-governmental organisation and attending a temple inauguration function on her invitation. “These allegations are baseless,” said Gadkari, “If Rao Dheeraj Singh, a one-time associate of Radia who has hurled these accusations, has guts, he should bring out all the facts.”
