Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP) councilors of the Central Provincial have decided to propose to the party leadership not to permit party legislators to participate in television reality shows.
UNP Councilors are to decide on sending the proposal to the party's Working Committee.
UNP Central Provincial Councilor Sanjeeva Kaviratne has told the media that the decision on whether to send the proposal to the Working Committee would be taken at a meeting of the group on November 10.
According to Kaviratne, those who are members of parliament should refrain from participating in television reality programmes that would affect the honor and belittle the good name of the institution.
UNP parliamentarian Dayasiri was in the center of a controversy when he was not selected as the winner of the popular Swarnavahini reality show/talent contest Megastar. When Jayasekara who was favored to win the title did not win, irate crowd attending the grand finale of the contest threw bottles at the stage.
