Sri Lanka Education Ministry to investigate the curricula of private schools

Sri Lanka Education Ministry has appointed a committee to investigate the curricula of private schools in the country.

The private schools are not under the purview of the Ministry of Education since they are registered under the Company Act.

However, a controversy erupted recently as authorities commenced a probe on including a sex education book in the curriculum of grade six at a famous international school.

Sri Lanka National Child Protection Authority launched a probe against Colombo International School (CIS) over the introduction of a booklet named 'Introducing Moral Issues' by Joe Jenkins to Grade Six students.

The introduction of the book containing chapters on Making Love, Contraception, and Abortion to 12-year olds has outraged the parents.

The Secretary of the Ministry of Education Sunil Sirisena said the committee has summoned the prescribed text books of the private schools for investigation.
