Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP) Hambantota District MP Sajith Premadasa says the right place for the former army commander and Democratic National Alliance leader Sarath Fonseka is not the jail but the Sri Lankan parliament.
Premadasa made these remarks addressing the crowd gathered to launch a protest demanding the release of Fonseka.
The protest was staged opposite the Supreme Court premises with the presence of Anoma Fonseka, wife of jailed former Army Commander.
"We came to this location in order to stand up for the unconditional release of the great war hero. This is a time that the judiciary in the country has been entrusted with the task of ensuring his freedom," Premadasa said.
